There are still around fifty old Arlesian mansions which were all built, at their time, inside the ramparts.

In the sixteenth century, the Renaissance style dominated with a strong antique influence, imported directly from Italy.

In the 17th century, the classical style prevailed, with the Arles City Hall as a major influence, which itself was inspired by the Palace of Versailles.

As for the eighteenth century, private architecture oscillated between the rocaille style, in Parisian fashion, and a less charged and more monumental pre-revolutionary style.
